A new Washington Post/Ipsos poll reveals that a majority of Americans disapprove of President Donald Trump’s decision to pardon nearly all individuals charged in connection with the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.

The survey, released Thursday, highlights the growing dissatisfaction among voters.

  • 83% oppose pardons for violent offenders involved in the Capitol riot.
  • 55% disapprove of pardons for nonviolent rioters.
  • 14% support Trump’s decision, while 3% declined to answer.
  • Disapproval is increasing—a Reuters/Ipsos poll last month showed only 58% were against these pardons.

The poll also revealed that more than half of Americans disapprove of Trump’s overall leadership:

  • 53% disapprove of his handling of the economy.
  • 54% disapprove of his management of the federal government.
  • 45% approve of his economic policies, while 2% had no opinion.

Many respondents expressed a desire for more Democratic representation in Congress as a counterbalance to Trump’s administration:

  • 54% want Democrats to control Congress.
  • 41% prefer Republicans who align with Trump’s agenda.
  • 5% chose not to answer.

The latest data suggests that Trump’s pardons may be one of his most unpopular decisions since taking office. His approval rating currently stands at 45%, with 53% disapproving of his performance.

This survey was conducted between February 13-18, with 2,601 participants. The margin of error is approximately 2.1 percentage points.

As the political landscape continues to shift, this poll underscores growing concerns among voters regarding Trump’s leadership and decision-making. The question now remains: how will these sentiments shape the upcoming elections?
